Team India had some memorable and some forgettable moments in International cricket this year. While India enjoyed a dream run in Tests in 2019, they had a heart-breaking moment in the 50 overs World Cup. India had an inconsistent run in T20Is as well. Throughout the year, we saw some phenomenal individual performances from the Men in Blue. These Indian stars were not only good on the field, but also were favorites in the Indian Fantasy Cricket as well.
In this article we have narrowed down the Top Indian Cricketers who were brilliant in 2019.
1. Rohit Sharma -
It has been a dream year for Rohit Sharma. From ODIs to Tests and to T20Is, the hitman was at his best in all the formats. The opener had a sensational World Cup 2019 where he struck five centuries and entered the record books. After the ODI heroics, Rohit brought his red-hot form into the Test format as well. Rohit Sharma, who was promoted to open the innings in the longer format came up with three hundred in four innings during the Test series against South Africa. He ended the year with most runs (1490), hundreds (7), fifty-plus scores (13) and fours (146) in the ODI format. With his form, Rohit had carved his status as one of the modern batting greats, especially in the shorter format.
Mayank’s fortune changed in 2019 when he was called as a replacement for injured Prithvi Shaw. Mayank made the most of the opportunity and since then has been India's first-choice opener in Test Cricket. Mayank Agarwal is the highest run-scorer for the team in the longest format of the game this year.
The opener scored three centuries in international cricket, two of which were double tons. He ended the 2019/20 season with 754 runs to his name at an average of 68.55. The Karnataka boy would look to continue this in the next season as well.
3. KL Rahul
Shikhar Dhawan’s injury woes provided some good opportunities to KL Rahul in the shorter format, and he did not disappoint at all. Rahul played 13 matches in ODIs and 9 T20Is, Rahul managed an impressive tally of 572 runs and 356 runs respectively. While the opener hit two hundred and three fifties in ODIs this year, he managed to score 4 fifties in T20Is as well.
Rahul had a good World Cup 2019 as well. The Karnataka batsman cracked a World Cup hundred against Sri Lanka at Leeds. He also posted two fifties against Pakistan and Bangladesh. After the success in the 50 over World Cup, Rahul would be eyeing his spot in the T20 World Cup 2020 squad.
4. Virat Kohli
Another year that belonged to the ‘King’ Virat Kohli. The modern batting master had an incredible year across all formats. The chase master scored 1,377 runs in 26 ODIs this year at an average of 59.86 and a strike rate of 96.36, with five hundred and seven fifties.
Virat was absolutely pre-eminent in the Test format as well. His career best 254 not out against South Africa in the second Test and his phenomenal knock of 136 against Bangladesh in India's first ever day-night Test match were some of the memorable Test innings this year. The Indian skipper had a wonderful year in T20Is as well. In 10 matches in 2019, Virat Kohli notched up 466 runs at a strike rate of 147.93 while averaging 77.66. Kohli posted as many as five fifties in the year, including his career best of 94 not out in the recently concluded T20I series against the West Indies. After the World Cup 2019 disappointment, Indian skipper will be hoping to clinch the T20 world Cup in 2020.
Kohli’s deputy Ajinkya Rahane had an exceptional year in Tests this year. The Mumbai batsman acted as savior many times in the red ball cricket. After proving his worth in the overseas conditions, Rahane established himself as India's best Test batsman in the home conditions as well.
The flamboyant batsman had a stunning return to form as he scored a hundred and two 50+ scores during the away tour to West Indies. His knock of 102 at Antigua was his first 100+ score in more than two years.
Rahane continued his stunning form in the home series against Bangladesh and South Africa, where scored one hundred and three half centuries.
Rahane will play a crucial part in the upcoming New Zealand tour and he would be hoping to carry his red-hot form down under as well.
