The Indian T20 League, the world's largest domestic cricket league, is scheduled to be in the UAE this year, not in India. League chairman Brijesh Patel had said that, with the postponement of the T20 World Cup to be held this year, the way has been cleared to get the league done. He had said that the tournament would start on 19 September.
The tournament is scheduled to be played from 19 September to 8 November, but now news is coming that now the final of this tournament will be played on 10 November instead of 8 November.
What are the reasons behind this?
According to sources, in the Governing Council meeting, the date of the final of the IPL 2020 can be extended from 8 November to 10 November. This is being done keeping in mind the stakeholders, especially the official broadcaster Star Sports, as all stakeholders involved want to make good use of the week of Diwali.
The BCCI, while confirming the IPL 2020 to be held in the UAE, said that the tournament would be held from 19 September to 8 November. But according to reports, now the Governing Council meeting to be held later this week on Sunday, August 2, can be sealed after discussing the decision to extend the tournament by 2 days. In such a situation, the IPL Fantasy League tournament will increase from 51 days to 53 days.
According to a Times of India report, stakeholders and sponsors of the league want to make the most of the week of Diwali. The finals were earlier to be played on Sunday 8 November, but now the finals can be held on Tuesday 10 November. There are more chances of this happening because this week is Diwali, and the organizers want to capitalize on the occasion more and more.
If this happens and the tournament goes on for two more days, this will be the first time in the history of the IPL Fantasy App when the final of the tournament will not be played on Sunday. Significantly, so far in the 12 seasons, the final of the tournament has been played every time on Sunday, however this is also the first time that the tournament is being held this time from September to November. There will be a Diwali holiday at the time of the finals as well and the sponsors can make a big profit from it so this decision can be stamped.
